● Kylemore, Co. Galway
Conamara & Galway
West of Galway city the fields give up and the country turns to bog, lake and mountain. This is the Gaeltacht — Irish is the working language here — and it’s where I bring people who want the Ireland that doesn’t perform for anyone.
Kylemore Abbey is the postcard, and it earns its place. But the day I build around it runs the Sky Road above Clifden, a wool shop where the weaver is at the loom, and dinner in Roundstone while the light goes long over the harbor.
Days I actually arrange here
- Kylemore Abbey and its walled Victorian garden
- The Sky Road above Clifden
- A weaver at the loom, not a gift-shop shelf
- Oysters and a pint where the boats come in
None of this is a package — it’s the raw material. Tell me your dates and your people and I’ll tell you honestly whether this region belongs in your trip.
