I’m Brendan.
I’m from Offaly, in the middle of Ireland, and for the past seven years I’ve been travelling this country with visitors — every coast road, every session town, a fair number of farm kitchens. I’m not a tour operator and I don’t run coaches. I’m the person who already made the mistakes and found the people worth trusting, so you don’t have to guess from five thousand miles away.
The other thing you should know about me: I dance. Sean-nós — the old style, solo, close to the floor, handed down rather than taught. I’ve won the All-Ireland twice at it. It matters here because the Ireland I’ll send you into isn’t the one on the fridge magnets; it’s the one where that dancing still happens on a Tuesday night, and I know which door to bring you through.
While you’re in Ireland, my phone is on. Not an office, not a helpline — me. If a boat is cancelled or a knee gives out on the day you booked the Gap of Dunloe, I’ll have it re-arranged before dinner.
