● Gap of Dunloe, Co. Kerry
The Ring of Kerry
Kerry is the Ireland people have in their heads before they arrive — and for once the real thing is better. The Ring itself is a fine day’s drive, but the moments that stay with my guests are off the loop: the Gap of Dunloe crossed the way it has been for two hundred years, the Skellig coast at Portmagee, tea in a farmhouse above Caherdaniel.
If your knees are good we’ll talk about Sceilg Mhichíl. If they’re not, the Skellig Experience and a boat around the islands gives you the wonder without the six hundred steps.
Days I actually arrange here
- Pony and trap through the Gap of Dunloe, boat back across the lakes
- Sceilg Mhichíl — or the gentler boat around it
- A farmhouse tea above Caherdaniel
- Killarney National Park by jaunting car, not coach window
None of this is a package — it’s the raw material. Tell me your dates and your people and I’ll tell you honestly whether this region belongs in your trip.
